The Arctic is the region around the North Pole. This region can be defined as the area north of the Arctic Circle, which is the limit of the midnight sun and the polar night. With the exception of relatively brief periods, when day and night alternate in daily rhythm, this region is characterized by one long "day" in summer, and one long "night" in winter. Normal time perception is lost, expanding into immeasurable timelessness. For centuries The North, Ultima Thule, has also been the mythical place beyond the border of the known world, threshold to the unknown. north is an attempt to capture this timeless experience.
The series was shot on Svalbard with a 5x7 view camera, with a shutterless Goerz Dagor lens mounted in a barrel. Exposure was done with a lens cap.
